Here are some of the reasons why a holiday at Sunshine Village should be on your bucket list.
A Fun Skiing and Snowboarding Experience for All
Being a ski resort, skiing is one of the top reasons why people opt for a vacation at Sunshine Village, and deservedly so as it is one of the largest ski resorts in North America and has also been termed as ‘Canada’s Best Snow.’ The beauty of skiing in Sunshine Village is that owing to its location on the Continental Divide, you can actually ski in two provinces (British Columbia and Alberta) at the same time. Here, you can enjoy more than 3,300 acres of skiable terrain and 107 named runs that span over three spectacular mountains. In addition, the resort has 12 lifts, among which 9 are superlifts, and a high-speed gondola that make transportation on the mountains a convenient and fun affair as you enjoy the extensive ski terrain. Our tip is to try out the gondola ride into the backcountry of the mountains, as this 15-minute ride offers unforgettable views from the high mountain tops. Also, the spectacular view of Mt. Assiniboine (also known as Canada’s version of The Matterhorn) from the top of Sunshine Village is something that you should not miss.
This resort is one that has a range of skiing terrain to suit all visitors with 20% beginner runs, 55% intermediate, and 25% advanced/expert. Tree line slopes, bowls, open groomers, glades, steep bowls, and drops are just some of the runs that Sunshine Village offers. So whether you are teaching your kids the ropes of skiing or are enjoying the slopes as an advanced skier, skiing in Sunshine Village is sure to give you some unforgettable memories. Standing tall at an altitude of 7,200 feet, Sunshine Village receives up to 35 feet of snow annually. In addition, the snow quality here is considered to be superior as compared to some of the neighboring ski resorts as the high altitude ensures that the snow stays dry and light, making snow activities a safe and fun experience.
If you are traveling with young kids and are debating whether or not to try out those advanced runs by yourself, Sunshine Village takes care of your dilemma by offering childcare for your kids. Available in half-day and full-day options, the childcare facility will keep your children happy and entertained and let you explore the terrain without having to worry about the little ones. If you want your children to learn skiing from the experts, the Sunshine ski school program is an excellent option as it teaches them the ropes of the activity according to their skill and comfort level, and also provides you report cards and recommendations to help the kids.
Canada’s First Heated Chairlift
When in Sunshine Village, make the most of your holiday with a ride on the heated chairlift at the resort, which is one of the latest additions to the place. The first of its kind in Canada, this heated quad chair (the Teepee Town LX) is a state-of-the-art lift that features heated seats, footrests, wind-blocking domes, and protective bubble covers in an attractive orange color. With 47 bubble chairs, this lift will run at a speed of 1,000 feet per minute and offers spectacular views of Mount Assiniboine among other sights.
