Instagram has changed travel forever. Our inspiration now comes from iconic, often dangerous travel photos such as these – and the intriguing stories behind them.
Taken in the mountainous landscape of Norway, this travel photograph features a formidable rock formation called Trolltunga. It certainly takes a special kind of brave to balance on the edge of a precipice with nothing but glacial air and a 2296-foot drop between you and the icy waters of Lake Ringedalsvatnet below. Worth the invigorating rush? You decide…
Trolltunga has seen a few accidents over the years, with strong winds and blizzardous conditions being the biggest risk factor. But this hasn’t deterred hikers from visiting the rock formation in their thousands. Last year, Norwegian black jazz band Shining even performed a concert there – from the same place that, just a few months later, an ill-fated 24-year-old student would plummet to her death.
